We loved a love, or so I thought,
that earth had never seen.
Our passion set the seas to boil,
the earth to shake, the wind to blow.
I didn’t know he did the same
for all who crossed his path,
until my best friend whispered
he’d fucked the whole darned town.
When word got out he’d been around
and daughters were expecting,
the fathers cocked their shotguns
and filled him full of holes.
Even though he’s long since dead,
he haunts me in my dreams
I’d gladly trade his nightly stays
for a bottomless glass of wine.
