This not-music is sandpaper and saw to sensitive ears.
Polar bears and elephants scream
and flee from the noise to the next great extinction.
Barred owls hoot to gunfire culling their broods to save
the spotted owl–their fallen feathers, illegal to gather.
Woodland habitats
degraded and destroyed
for agricultural production.
Our ears are deaf to howling death.
We cannot tell if we cause ruin or we rebuild.
How long must we endure
the deafening silence
of vanishing bees?
I stir local wildflower honey
into my chamomile tea.
