When I started to make decent money, I promised myself to buy nice kitchenware items that would last a long time.
Since that promise, many of those things that gave me so much pleasure are no longer in my cupboards or drawers.
My oldest stepson set fire to a beautiful stock pot.
My husband and I have broken individual dishes and bowls of our Villeroy & Boch set because we decided to enjoy the beauty we’ve worked for every day. Even when it lands on the floor.
Some of the Dansk stainless steel flatware pieces have mysteriously disappeared (perhaps to my stepsons digging holes in the backyard, perhaps to the trash or the garbage disposal) or have fatigued.
I will not replace them. The Villeroy & Boch and Dansk patterns are no longer in stock.
Shockingly, neither am I.
Nothing lasts, I’ve learned. I can only enjoy the beauty of each moment.
