Summer Surfing

Summer simmers the city 

to a slow boil, melting

the buildings and traffic

to thick chocolate lava

I ride on a surfboard

to get to the sea.

I breathe ocean breezes

and tidepools til sunset 

cools sunburn 

and sidewalks

and I can go home.
