Outcast

I’d rather be an outcast,

living on the edge,

and cast my thoughts  

out to the gloom for birds

to catch and fish to eat,

than waste my time

in well-lit rooms of people 

who cannot digest 

what I might say,

who walk away 

with empty brains 

and stomachs full

of appetizers.
