Every night, hyena laughs from
Rose, my upstairs neighbor,
shake the chandelier.
I’m certain Joe, across the hall,
slithers, twists the door knob
with his neck to check
if he can find me naked.
Chuck, my left-door neighbor
snarls and shakes his mane
whenever I walk by.
Sue, my right-door neighbor
eagle-eyed, stares down her beak,
as I open my front door.
I know I’m living in the zoo,
and I’m the next free meal.
