Day pines for Night, a woman he’s never seen. They are separated by the rising and setting sun.
Day refuses to dance with the light. He refuses to fill his pockets with dandelions. Without her, the sun grows dim, and meadows are flooded with rain.
Day leaves secret messages for Night. He throws sparkly confetti in the air. He hides birdsong in rain puddles.
Night has the heart of the moon. Cold. Lifeless. Brittle bright. She drinks the confetti as she dances with the shadows through rain puddles. Feelings are unknown in her world of endless darkness. She has no reason to wonder who left her these gifts.
The Moon dances closer to sunrise. The Sun almost sees her. He reaches out his hand to her. He will reach for her forever. She will never look his way. Their fingers will never touch.
