Sickly was a sentence of long hours in bed, a heavy chest where mucus sat and laughed. I’d rather be in school than humidified by hours curling hair and blinds. Cartoons crumbled brain cells, books too heavy for my hands. Cherry couldn’t cut the bitter flavor forced upon my tongue. Even now, the taste of cherry makes me want to gag.
